The above exchange of SMSes is just one of many that has been very common amongst youths nowadays. And not just through text messaging, but even through MSN messaging and internet chatlines! Gosh! It really came as a shock to me on how watered-down human relationships are being treated in this new age IT savvy generation.
In an era of high tech IT gadgets, have we all become social handicaps that adopts dual personalities both behind the screen (computer and handphone) and in person? In the past two years, i came in touch with a few people, majority youths, whom are very shy and inward looking by person.. but yet when over the SMS and MSN, they seem to be like another person who is so lively, bubbly and interactive!
Hiding behind the screens of computers and handphones have become a great escape zone where youths dared not step out to share how the really feel in person. It may be because of individual low self esteem, past failures, or enjoy the ability of becoming someone whom others will like.
Have human relationships become so flippant and superficial nowadays that we dared not have proper conversations face-to-face? Technology is good, but when it comes to a level where it depletes us of our human relationships... the situation is fast becoming dangerous. Does it mean that next time we may have SMS proposals and divorce too? What are we really afriad of in conversations face-to-face?
