WAHHH!!!!
‘SO COOL HOR CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW!! Aye… I wanna be jus’ like him! Savvy??’
Maybe that’s what our hearts tell us every time after we watched a movie with a super cool hero or sometimes villains too. Well guess there is nothing wrong with adoring those heroes, but a question to ponder about. Are we going overboard?
Yes, go ahead and buy their merchandise, go download their wallpaper, go change your MSN display pic. But when I say overboard, I mean OVERBOARD!! Do we really need to change the way we talk/look to be just like Him/Her/*It? (*who knows, maybe someone will be inspired by the way Shrek dresses)
Ok, picture this with me, One day you walk pass the soccer field near your house and you see this bunch of botak head fellas headbutting each other because none of them wanna be the goalkeeper. Or imagine 5 years down the road, pirates are roaming the 7 seas again. You may tell me that 5 years later maybe the Jack Sparrow, I mean Captain Jack Sparrow craze will die down, fine enough, let’s say imagine all the teenage boys wants to be just like Captain Jack. Oh Bugga, you will see a bunch of jokers running 2.4 man.
I admit, the above illustrations may be a teeny weeny bit exaggerating, but what I’m trying to highlight is this, we don’t have to try to become someone else. No point trying to imitate Jay Chou, Captain Jack Sparrow or any other Tom, Dick or Harry. Which would you prefer? Becoming their shadow, an imposter, a second best? Or would you prefer to be yourself? The one and only, one of a kind You?
Are you going to look into the mirror, and say ‘Yes this is who I want to be!’ or are you going to look at the mirror and reject that image you see? The choice is yours? I have made mine and I love what I see in it.
