"Wah! @##$%^&*&^(^%^&*!!! My teacher in school super #$%^&*(*&^%$#%^ lor! Cannot take it man! @!#$%^&*(!@#$%^&*(! And somemore that day I got detention class.. !@#$%^&*(@#$%^&* man!"
Just in case you think that you computer have some language decoding problem, I assure you not. All the "!@#$%^&*()" that you see above refer to vulgarities. And they are from a 1 minute conversation which I overheard from a group of secondary school boys sitting next to me while waiting for the MRT. Not that I was eavesdropping on them, but they were just talking so loudly! Its seems that these were a bunch of PhD graduates from the Faculty of Vulgarities!
This was not the first time I hear youths spouting vulgarities flippantly. My other shocking encounter came when I saw two primary school students quarreling in McDonalds one day and they were hurling vulgarities at each other! More astonishingly, both of them are girls!
Is this just a phase of a teenagers' growing-up years? Or a gradual, dangerous culture which youths of today are blindly following because it is cool?
To the youths: Don't just blindly follow the cool trends. Think before you act, don't be foolish!
To the adults: We all have an equal role to play in educating the younger generation in this area. Just imagine one day your little nephews or nieces being absorbed into such a culture too! We may not be able to stop such a growing trend, but we definitely can educate the youths around us and raise them up as resilent kids!
