It was really a sore feeling sitting 2 hours in front of the TV in the wee hours of the night, just to watch my favorite soccer team (Manchester United) lose a game. Rubbing salt to the wound, not to mention that they were leading from the first leg match, plus they were being routed 3-0! My gosh!
Apart from the sore feeling, I do have to admit that Manchester United deserved to lose because they played badly and were never the better team. They were too soft in their tackles, always caught in their own halves, and giving AC Milan far too much chances to roam around at freewill! Manchester United just didn't seem to have that zeal and fighting spirit on this rainy night in Milan. It was hard to swallow... what happened to that very same team which fought back from 2-0 down to win 4-2 over Everton over the weekend?!?!?!
(Pardon me that I sound like a soccer news reporter here....)
Honestly, many of us in life may just be like Manchester United's condition. So often we focus on the style, looking good, talk big and boast about many things (that's the easy part) .... but when the crunch time comes (the tough and uncomfortable part), we fail to rise up to the occasion. We fail to live out what we scream and shout about. We choose to avoid or even run away. The truth of the matter is we stumbled even before the fight! Have we lost our fighting attitude in life?
Don't get me wrong.. I am not saying that if we fight, we will definitely win.. the hard truth of life is that it may not neccessary happen that way. However, the focus should be on character development rather than being result driven. Being born and raised in a result driven world, this new generation is in danger of being over driven in results and under developed in character and values.
What stands in between us and achieving our goals is not the obstacles and the difficult decisions. What stands in between us and our fulfilled goals is OURSELVES!
