In the midst of a busy hectic work schedule, pausing for a while to look at this picture on my work desk just brightens up my day. This hand drawn picture was given to me by one of my church youth. She's already 18 years old. Maybe some of us may think it looks kiddish, but in its simplicity, it just makes my day! :)
What perks me up is not how elegant or artistic the drawing is, but rather the mentoring journey I walked through with this girl the past three years. In my journey of growing up, I had the privilege of wonderful mentors in my life i.e. my Dad, my Junior College civic tutor, my church pastors and also my manager at my workplace now. In a similar fashion, I am now learning to be a mentor (and a better mentor) to many of the youths I interact with.
Writer Josh McDowell wrote in his book, "Not just kids, but everyone of us need a super hero to look up to. But real heros aren't glittering images on a TV or movie screen; they don't come in for a one-night stand at a rock concert or sports event. True heroes are there for the long haul, and you can see their weaknesses along with their strengths.... Heroes aren't just talk, their walk bears out who and what they are."
You and I may not be Superman, Spiderman or Ultraman... But in many ways, we can be a Hero to someone out there!
