Finally the persistent sore throat has taken its toll on me. On Sunday morning, I was croaking like a toad. By that night, I had totally lost my voice, unrecognizable and probably would even scare away the toads within 10km of my neighbourhood!
I never liked to visit doctors. Reason being the consultation fees are ridiculously expensive and all they always tell me to do is a four letter word - R.E.S.T! But then I have no choice this morning but to visit the nearby clinic and get some antibiotics if I wanted to recuperated at a faster rate.
And this was what I got from this morning's clinic visit:
- One bottle of cough syrup (taken 3 times daily)
- One set of tablets for flu and sore throat (taken 3 times daily)
- One set of lozenges (taken 3 times daily)
- One set of antibiotics (taken 2 times daily)
- Medical certificate excusing me from one day of work
- Receipt of payment for medical fee - $52!
Lesson learnt:
I always get exasperated by the youths I mentor because they do not know how to take care of themselves. Often I had to tell them off, "Sick already please rest! Don't go running around!". This time round I had to live what I preached. I had not wanted to see the doctor and continued with my school training today. But I thought twice about it. This is not a time to be gungho. I am not in the best state to teach, so might as well take a rest and recuperate. Kudos and thanks to my colleagues whom covered my training for me! :)
