Below is an interesting SMS exchange I had with my friend this morning. Hope you manage to learn something precious out of it as I have.
EeJay: Hi XXXXX, ask you ah. Currently your work requires you to perform quite a few duties. On top of that, you have also been given extra special project and responsibilities. You seem to be juggling many portfolios and tasks. How do you cope with the stress, pressure and expectations that come along?
XXXXX: Sometimes I let some balls drop. Sometimes I put other balls down. Sometimes I ask someone to juggle with me. What is important is that I juggle for the audience of ONE. Are you stressed?
Ee Jay: Hmm.. not really stressed. Just that sometimes I find that I have many balls to juggle too. People pass the ball to me because they know I am able to do a good job (or I am the best man for the job). But I am only EeJay, not superman. Haha.. you know me lah, am quite critical of myself when I drop the balls that have been entrusted to me. Guess I gotta learn to be secure and putting some balls down too.
XXXXX: Well, or simply learn to say NO and know that it is ok to say no. (couldn't remember exactly cos i deleted some SMS)
Ee Jay: Thanks XXXXX! Am learning from you man! Your two SMSes are enlightening to me. Thanks again! =)
XXXXX: One more SMS. For someone so wonderful like you, even if you drop a ball, everyone understands. So try spinning plates next? =)
Ee Jay: Wow! Guess I must learn new techniques and ways of coping. Or also get used to dropping plates so frequently so as to master the art of plate spinning!
XXXXX: Oh, but dropping plates is different from dropping balls. Very expensive. =) If you do well with balls, you get to do plates. Then you finally do knives. By stages and by grace.
Ee Jay: Thank you XXXXX! Always learning in simple ways from you! Thanks! Appreciate ya alot!
Note: Due to sensitivity, the real identity of Mr XXXXX cannot be revealed. But he is a very dear friend, teacher and mentor to me, espacially in the Christian faith. Currently in his workplace, he is holding quite a few portfolios and also adhoc projects.
